Characteristics. This Mediterranean import

This
winter annual grows to 3 feet tall with bluish-green foliage and weak stems
that bend at their base. The leaves are
folded or flat to ½ inch wide and 18 inches long. The flower heads are short, relatively thick,
oblong and 1 to 3 inches long. Young
seedlings often exude a red pigment when broken at the base.

The flower
heads are short, thick and oblong varying from 1 to 3 inches in length with
densely crowded spiklets that overlap and are sharply
pointed.
